Final Culminating: Gum Package

May 31, 2008 at 12:21 pm (Assignments)

a) What is the feeling you wanted your gum
package to portray? How did you achieve this?

The feeling I wanted my gum package to portray was the feeling of a bit of excitement and warmth. I avhieved this by adding red and green to my package and having the exploded paper reveal the fruits. the colours make it feel like it is a hot summer day and the explosion of fruit makes me want to eat some gum.

b) Who are you targeting your gum to? How did
you achieve this?

I am targeting my gum to teens and children and I achieved this by making the package brightly coloured so it catches the eye.

c) What area in your design did you use Photoshop?

The area of my design that I used photoshop for was the exploding fruits.

d) More marks are given to designs that are custom created and not just taken from free
vectors or free stock photography. What part of your gum package did you custom design?

the part of my gum package that I custom designed was practically everything from the logo to the background. But the only thing that I did not custom design was the picture of the fruits and the few bits of paper that look like they exploded.

Assignment #3 Personal Logo

April 24, 2008 at 7:53 pm (Assignments)

a) What does your logo represent?

This logo represents me, Nilufer.

b) How did you design your logo to represent this?

I designed my logo to represent me firstly by using my nickname; nilu. And then I noticed that if I manipulate the font of the text my name upside down shows the same thing. This represents me because that is the way I am. For example if I set my mind to doing something one way at the beginning and I change my mind later on, I still would end up with my first choice.

Assignment #3: Peace week poster

April 14, 2008 at 1:08 pm (Assignments)

Blurb:

The main inspiration for this poster is the statement ” They judge people for how they look ( I am the they)”. Colour is what I wanted to show, I wanted to show that all the different colours together make something unique and attractive. Everyday when people get bullied because of the way they look they all just put their heads down and don’t say anything. This was what I wanted to show.

Class Task #7: Masks

March 6, 2008 at 2:33 pm (Class Tasks)

vector-mask.jpgmask2.jpg

What happens when you paint part of the layer mask…black?…white?…grey?

When I paint part of the layer mask black the place of part where I painted on becomes fully transparent. This then shows the layer or picture below the masked layer.

When I paint part of the layer mask white the part I painted on becomes fully opaque. The masked layer’s original image is what appears on the painted part.

When I paint part of the layer mask grey the part I painted on becomes a 50% opaque and 50% transparent. If I do this on the image above I would see a combination of the frame’s layer and the picture of the girl’s layer.

“Confusion Within”

March 4, 2008 at 10:50 pm (Assignments)

confusion-within.jpg

a) What were you trying to express and how did you achieve this?

I was trying to express the confusion I felt when making light decisions that seem like they can make big differences. The colour makes it feel like the confusion is just on the surface its not deep, and that in all the different thicknesses of the colour I still have to like remember myself.

b) What Filters did you use and where?

First for the back ground I paintbucketed a layer then used the film grain filter to make it have a little rougher texture. Secondly I used different special brushes and liquified it to make those curling, swirling colourful lines to make it look confusing. I continued this with more colours. Then I used the paint daubs filter to make the bottom left corner picture of me look more softer and like its just a painting.

c) What layer blending mode did you use and where?

The layer blending modes I used in this assignment are luminosity, overlay and linear burn. I used the luminosity blending mode to make my bottom left corner picture more transparent or so that it looks like its almost blending into the background. I used the overlay blending mode to make the top right picture of my eyes stand out, so it can be seen through all the other colours. And finally I used the linear burn blending mode to make a layer with a special brush’s pattern darker just below the image of the eyes, so that it would fully look like the eyes were the only thing meant to be shown.

d) What special brush did you use and where?

I used all assorted paintbrushes from circle 1 to triangle dots to make different strokes and curves, which I later liquified to the present form. Particularly for the assorted paintbrush crosshatch 2, I used it for the dark blue stroke under the eyes. And finally for the assorted brush dashed circle 2, I used it to erase parts of my bottom left corner picture so that only the relevant parts of the picture are kept.

Class Task #6: Photo Editing Challenge

February 14, 2008 at 1:09 pm (Class Tasks)

The Cat:
For this, I first used the Elliptical Marquee Tool to copy the right eye of the cat. But I also feathered it so the edges won’t be so rough. Then I pasted the eye, flipped it horizontally and rotated it into place-aligning the starting line of the nose from the eye to the actual nose. Then I used the smudge tool to make the fur around the left eye darker, but it was not that good. So I used the paint tool to make tiny bits of fur, and then decreased the opacity to about 12%. And now this is the result:

The Ripped Newspaper:
In this challenge, I first used the Rectangular Marquee Tool to copy bits of the top left of the picture then I pasted it on the bottom left. After I did this continuonsly to fill up the ripped space I then used the smudge tool to smudge the joints so they look like they are one solid paper. Then I copied a part of Ho and pasted, flipped and moved it to the right place. Then I used the smudge tool so again they look like they are one piece and then used the dodge tool to lighten up some parts of the cheek so it matches the skin tone. And at last I made sure that there was straight lines around Ho’s picture and this was my result:

Class Task #5: Born Into Brothels

February 6, 2008 at 11:09 pm (Class Tasks)

1) How did you enjoy the film? What stood out for you?

Personally I liked the film a lot. What stood out to me most was the fact that someone actually had the heart and courage to help these kids. There are only a few people who see these conditions and very less of them do something to help.

2) Did you learn anything new about photography, life, people? What?

I learned that photography has many ways of being expressed. Everyone had a different point of view about the world and when they captured them in ordinary cameras it shows how much we kind of take things for granted over here.

3) How do you think the world needs to change?

How important is this?I think that it is very important that the world needs to change into a more caring and supportive environment for everyone and everything. This is important because this is part of our responsibility as a citizen of any country in the world. We should not be repeating history because we are ignorant about other’s feelings. We mus learn and work together. Its basically like the old saying “treat others the way you want to be treated”.

4) What are you willing to do TODAY to be a part of that change?

One thing that I am willing to do today to be part of that change is to change my own behaviour towards others. This is because when I can be a responsible and caring person it is when I will be able to reach out and influence others.

5) Do you know a good song/rap/poem with
good lyrics about change in the world?Post a link or lyrics to share it with us.

Waiting On The World To Change Lyrics

me and all my friends
we’re all misunderstood
they say we stand for nothing and
there’s no way we ever could
now we see everything that’s going wrong
with the world and those who lead it
we just feel like we don’t have the means
to rise above and beat it so we keep on waiting
waiting on the world to change
we keep on waiting
waiting on the world to change
it’s hard to beat the system
when we’re standing at a distance
so we keep waiting
waiting on the world to change
now if we had the power
to bring our neighbours home from
they would have never miss a Christmas
no more ribbons on their door
and when you trust your television
what you get is what you got
cause when they own the information, oh
they can bend it all they want
that’s why we’re waiting
waiting on the world to change
we keep on waiting
waiting on the world to change
it’s not that we don’t care,
we just know that the fight ain’t fair
so we keep on waiting
waiting on the world to change
and we’re still waiting
waiting on the world to change
we keep on waiting
waiting on the world to change
one day our generation
is gonna rule the population
so we keep on waiting
waiting on the world to change
we keep on waiting
waiting on the world to change

6) Pick a non-profit organization that is important to you. Why is this important to you?
Do they have a website?

A non profit organization that is important to me is the UNICEF, the United Nations Children’s Fund ( formerly known as United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund) . This is important to me because when I was younger my principal used to get help from them for some students in Saudi Arabia. So I saw how they provided puzzles and stuff just for kids to make them happy and this is why it is important to me.

7) What ideas do you have for media arts projects that we could do individually or as a class to help contribute to these organizations that are important to us?

An idea I have that we can do as a class is that we can find ways to help these organizations in making awareness or just sharing these organizations to eachother because not everyone knows about non-profit organizations and how they impact other people lives.
