Assignment #1: Magazine Cover
2. These are the two original pictures that I used
to make my magazine cover.
Hilary Duff
Background
3. a) What qualities of your magazine cover make it effective? (eg. What makes it eye catching?, What about it promotes curiosity?, How is it visually pleasing?, What makes it easy to understand?)
My magazine cover is effective because of many reasons. First of all it looks so real that no one would’ve known that I used Hilary Duff’s picture in #2. Secondly the realistic colour of her features and the soft green background makes it eye catching and visually pleasing. It is strong enough to catch an eye of a person while being friendly to the eyes. The picture of Hilary Duff on the cover has an expression that promotes curiosity. When the magazine is in a stand and people see a well-known celebrity’s face they stop and see what the headline is. Finally the “uniformed” colours or font colours of the story title and the secondary story title makes it easy to understand. They make it easier to understand because it draws the eyes easily to the story, it doesn’t make them confused about the top story from the secondary story.
b)What was the order of hierarchy you were trying to achieve for the elements on your magazine cover?
The order of hierarchy the I was trying to achieve for the elements of my magazine cover are:
1) Hilary Duff (picure)
1) Dulcinee (magazine title)
2) “Hilary Duff THE ACCEPTABLE FACE……” Story title
2) “195+ SPRING’S BEST FASHION AND….” Secondary Story line
3) “INSIDER SKIN CARE SECRETS….” Additional story.
Class Task #4
1. When a 300 dpi image and a 72 dpi image are printed out at the same size the image with 300 dpi will be clearer because the momre dots there are the more detailed the picture would be compared to the 72 dpi image.
2. A picture created at 1 dpi would look like a blob. The picture would basically have no details, it would be very small and nothing would really be clear.
Class Tasks #3 – Selection Tools
Fruit-Lasso
1. What combination of tools did you use to isolate the fruit in “fruit_combo.jpg” and where in the image did you use which tool?
The combination of tools that I used in the fruit bowl combo picture were the Magnetic Lasso and the Magic Wand tools. First I used the Magnetic Lasso to outline the bowl from the onion to the far right of the bowl. Then I used the Magic Wand to add and subtract parts of the bottom of the bowl, since it was the most difficult part of the picture it took a while. But then everything turned out fine.

2.Of the methods you used to isolate the fruit in the 3 pictures. Which method did you find most effective in this case?
Of the methods I used to isolate the fruitbowl in the three pictures, the method that I found the most effective i this case is the magnetic lasso. This is because it was faster and easier to use. Sometimes using the Magic Wand took a long time.
