Class Task #5: Born Into Brothels

February 6, 2008 at 11:09 pm (Class Tasks)

1) How did you enjoy the film? What stood out for you?

Personally I liked the film a lot. What stood out to me most was the fact that someone actually had the heart and courage to help these kids. There are only a few people who see these conditions and very less of them do something to help.

2) Did you learn anything new about photography, life, people? What?

I learned that photography has many ways of being expressed. Everyone had a different point of view about the world and when they captured them in ordinary cameras it shows how much we kind of take things for granted over here.

3) How do you think the world needs to change?

How important is this?I think that it is very important that the world needs to change into a more caring and supportive environment for everyone and everything. This is important because this is part of our responsibility as a citizen of any country in the world. We should not be repeating history because we are ignorant about other’s feelings. We mus learn and work together. Its basically like the old saying “treat others the way you want to be treated”.

4) What are you willing to do TODAY to be a part of that change?

One thing that I am willing to do today to be part of that change is to change my own behaviour towards others. This is because when I can be a responsible and caring person it is when I will be able to reach out and influence others.

5) Do you know a good song/rap/poem with
good lyrics about change in the world?Post a link or lyrics to share it with us.

Waiting On The World To Change Lyrics

me and all my friends
we’re all misunderstood
they say we stand for nothing and
there’s no way we ever could
now we see everything that’s going wrong
with the world and those who lead it
we just feel like we don’t have the means
to rise above and beat it so we keep on waiting
waiting on the world to change
we keep on waiting
waiting on the world to change
it’s hard to beat the system
when we’re standing at a distance
so we keep waiting
waiting on the world to change
now if we had the power
to bring our neighbours home from
they would have never miss a Christmas
no more ribbons on their door
and when you trust your television
what you get is what you got
cause when they own the information, oh
they can bend it all they want
that’s why we’re waiting
waiting on the world to change
we keep on waiting
waiting on the world to change
it’s not that we don’t care,
we just know that the fight ain’t fair
so we keep on waiting
waiting on the world to change
and we’re still waiting
waiting on the world to change
we keep on waiting
waiting on the world to change
one day our generation
is gonna rule the population
so we keep on waiting
waiting on the world to change
we keep on waiting
waiting on the world to change

6) Pick a non-profit organization that is important to you. Why is this important to you?
Do they have a website?

A non profit organization that is important to me is the UNICEF, the United Nations Children’s Fund ( formerly known as United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund) . This is important to me because when I was younger my principal used to get help from them for some students in Saudi Arabia. So I saw how they provided puzzles and stuff just for kids to make them happy and this is why it is important to me.

7) What ideas do you have for media arts projects that we could do individually or as a class to help contribute to these organizations that are important to us?

An idea I have that we can do as a class is that we can find ways to help these organizations in making awareness or just sharing these organizations to eachother because not everyone knows about non-profit organizations and how they impact other people lives.

    Hey Nilu…
that’s awesome that you actually got to see the Unicef money at use…sometimes we just donate…but never really hear the great stories about how its being used or how we’ve been helpful..so that’s nice to hear.
I absolutely love what you say here…”We should not be repeating history because we are ignorant about other’s feelings. ”
it’s funny how much we don’t learn ehy?
I truly believe we can be a part of that change though. I know i can’t control how other people choose to treat me, or how other’s choose to treat each other. But i can control how i treat other’s…and if we all took concern of this one thing…i think we’ll end up covering the world….haha
    Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
